The 2008 Ivy League Spring Season is off to a great start. Many in the league have set ambitious goals for the season. Fellow kickballers have made commitments such as: not being asked to leave a single bar all season, kicking less like a little girl, and setting a single season man-bunt record.
While these goals are indeed impressive, they pale in comparison to the enormous charity goal set by the board this season.
Each season, our kickball league raises money for a designated charity. This year we are playing for Horizons for Homeless Children. Horizons is a Boston based-charity that runs playspaces for children throughout Massachusetts. These playspaces teach children to share, to read and to enjoy exploring their worlds. Additionally, these spaces allow parents time to learn new job skills, work towards a GED or technical degree and, hopefully, to break the cycle of homelessness.
This season we have committed to raise, what we believe to be, a WAKA Massachusetts single season record of $1,000. While this number may seem daunting, kickballers can rest assured the board has numerous new and exciting fund-raising activities planned that will help us hit our target. Activities currently on the table include 50/50 raffles, charity bar points and a post season WAKA Ivy League Tournament Bracket.
For those who would like to contribute immediately there will be a Change for Charity container at Tommy Doyle’s every Sunday. Have a spare dime, quarter, dollar? Throw it in. It’s going towards a great cause and we’ll need all the help we can get to reach our goal.
